POSITION # 1.

**CURRENTLY AVAILABLE.  APPLICATIONS REVIEWED ON ROLLING BASIS**

POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP POSITION

Memory Development

Principal Investigator: Thanujeni (Jeni) Pathman

I invite highly motivated candidates to apply for a post-doctoral position in my lab at York University in Toronto, Canada (md.lab.yorku.ca).  The post-doctoral fellow will help lead research examining the development of memory across childhood. Research will involve behavioral measures and can also involve cognitive neuroscience tools (MRI, EEG/ERP, eyetracking). Participants will primarily be school-aged children and young adults, however studies in other lifespan periods are possible. The post-doctoral fellow will have the opportunity to initiate studies, work with existing behavioural/neuroimaging data, and contribute to ongoing studies. Current lab focus is memory for time and space, the relation between episodic and semantic memory, memory for naturalistic events, and children’s memory accuracy in forensic contexts. There will also be opportunity to engage in collaborative studies with other York researchers and affiliated research units, particularly the LaMarsh Centre for Child and Youth Research and Connected Minds.  The postdoc will also interact with researchers outside of York based on existing collaborative grants.  Lab projects are currently funded by both NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) and SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council).

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D in psychology, developmental psychology, forensic psychology, cognitive neuroscience or a related field
  • Knowledge of relevant research areas (e.g., human memory or cognitive development)
  • Demonstrated research ability; advanced data analysis and writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and with others
  • Asset, but not required: Programming experience
  • Asset, but not required: Previous experience with structural or functional MRI, EEG/ERP, or eye tracking
  • Asset, but not required: Previous experience conducting studies in "real world" settings or with societal implications

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to ongoing studies in the lab and initiate new studies
  • Disseminate research (i.e., conference presentations and journal article submissions)
  • Mentoring undergraduate research assistants and graduate student trainees
  • Opportunities available for teaching in the Psychology Department

Interested applicants should send a cover letter (highlighting relevant research experience and career goals), current CV, and contact information for three references to Jeni Pathman (tpathman at yorku.ca). Please include all documents in a single pdf file and include your last name in the file name (i.e., “LASTNAME.pdf”). Please mention the position title “Postdoc in Memory Development” in your email to differentiate this position from other postdoctoral positions available in the lab.  Review of applications will begin immediately and continue on a rolling basis until the position is filled.  The position is for one year, with opportunity for extension.
